My Visit To The Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside
The Fox Performing Arts Center is based in downtown Riverside, California. It was built in 1920, and it is also known as The Riverside Fox Theater. The historic building itself is based upon the Spanish Colonial Revival style architecture, but it received an extensive remodeling in 2009 as part of a downtown Riverside project to revitalize the entire area. The theater now has modern facilities that have resulted in a larger stage, new 1,600 comfy seat capacity and new lighting, but it has kept the aesthetics from the 1920s. The three tiers of the theater offer a perfect view from everywhere, and there isn’t a bad seat in the House. The lobby contains a runway area which is perfect for taking pictures. There is ample and convenient parking to attend the theater that can be found on the northwest corner of Mission Inn Avenue and Market Street along with several private garage lots around the area. There are dozens of restaurants and bars around the vicinity that can be enjoyed before or after the events.
The theater has a long history with the movie industry and gained its initial fame by being the first theater to show Gone with the Wind. To this day it offers movie showings with the added benefit of a world-class menu and drinks, along with after screening events that include music and themed after-parties.
The theater offers a wide variety of events throughout the year.
Along with traditional music events, the local ballet has performances throughout the year, including their performance of Nutcracker around the holiday period, to go along with other Christmas performances and the Rogers and Hammerstein production of Cinderella. From world-famous artists to a performance from the Chippendales, the theater prides itself on the eclectic nature of its events. Along with acts that are considered classics, the theater is also a venue for contemporary music acts from all genres. There are many events targeted toward the whole family, with a performance of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer that children will love, along with many events throughout the year that have a younger audience in mind. There are also events that host comedians.
The theater offers extensive opportunities for corporate events and it can be booked for private use that includes private concerts, weddings, and receptions, or business meetings.
For regularly announced events the box office is open Tuesday through Friday from midday to six in the evening and on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The theater is also active in the local Riverside community, and it promotes collaboration with outreach projects and fundraising for a variety of local issues. The Fox Riverside foundation was set up to encourage a love for the arts in the community. While you’re visiting California, check out Mount Roubidoux.
Overall the theater has kept much of its grandeur and the unique architecture of the roaring twenties while modernizing its facilities for the twenty-first century. The beautiful interior and acoustics are perfect for the wide range of events that are held year round.
